Having 100 % control over your domain names is something rather necessary and to be able to access and edit the DNS records for every one of them is one of the things you should look for when you search for a registration or a shared website hosting provider. You may have heard about the so-called “name servers” that show where a domain is hosted, but below them you will find a whole group of records, for example the A record, which is the IP address of the server hosting the site, and the MX records, which show the server that handles the emails for a particular domain address. These records are employed if you wish to have your web site with one company and the e-mails with another, for example. Additionally you can use a domain for a non-website service or forward the traffic to it using special records. Many companies ask for an additional fee to provide access to edit specific DNS records besides the name servers.
